Life is chaotic these days, there are millions of distractions out there, all desperately trying to get your attention. Now is the time to intercept the constant noise, take a break, reduce stress and focus on your health.
Give some of these a try and let us know how you get on.
- Get some sleep!
The biggest health concern we come across at The Health Store Online is poor sleep quality. Without enough rest the body cannot function properly, and it plays havoc with all your systems. Whatever the time of day, if you are feeling overwhelmed or fatigued from lack of sleep – head somewhere quiet and try to take at least a short nap. The world will not cease to exist if you take a break for 20 mins to recharge your batteries.
- Drink a pint of water
Sounds obvious doesn’t it? After sleep, dehydration is the second most common cause of brain fog, lack of energy, difficulty concentrating, irritability, poor digestion etc. Pour yourself a pint of the good stuff and feel all the cells in your body come alive! Guaranteed free liquid energy.
- Stretch or do some yoga
Ever noticed how your cat or dog stretches as soon as they wake up? Nobody told them to do that, they instinctively know it’s good for them. Yet humans have the intelligence (and google) to know stretching is healthy, and very few do! A sure-fire way to feel instantly more awake is to do some stretching for 5-10 mins. You can do static stretches or dynamic (moving stretches) both have great benefits and make you feel instantly less stiff and more mobile. You can find thousands of stretches online, and if you are really going to spoil yourself, find a free yoga video on YouTube and give it a go!
- Take some deep breaths
When was the last time you noticed how shallow your breaths were? Its so easy to forget to breathe properly, but nothing makes you feel more centred, calm and energised than a few minutes of deep breaths. Breathing techniques have been used for centuries for stress, illness and pain management. Whilst you are reading this guide, why don’t you take several deep breaths – go on just do it.
Meditation doesn’t need to be complicated. You don’t need to go to classes or take a trip across the globe to a Buddhist Monastery to enjoy the amazing benefits. All you need to do to get started is to find a quiet place, try to clear your mind for a few minutes and take some deep controlled breaths. There are some great guided meditation apps available that gently talk you through a relaxation of your body, part by part and help you clear your mind. It doesn’t need to be any more complex than that. Meditation is for everyone. Its just a process of calming the mind.
- Get some fresh air
You weren’t designed to be boxed in. Go outdoors and connect with some fresh air, wide open space and appreciate nature. It’s critical for good health. Even just a 10 minute walk outside offers enormous health benefits. When can you fit this into your day?
- Practise gratitude
One of our absolute favourite ways to instantly feel better in any situation is to take a few minutes to focus on gratitude. In your mind or written down, take some deep breathes and make a list of 5 things you have to be grateful for right now. It could be your family, body, health, heart, friends, pet or a simple cup of tea.. Anything you value in this moment. Focus passionately on how grateful you are for those things, and instantly feel your mind and body relax and de-stress. Practise this daily for maximum benefits.
- Listen to your favourite song
You cannot beat a boogie. Music is the gift that keeps on giving, and nothing energises you like listening to your favourite song. Get up out of your chair, blast your favourite song and have a little boogie. It’s free, it’s fun and it works!
Ever seen those funny videos on the internet of animals or people doing ridiculously silly things? We love them in our office and regularly play them to brighten a busy day! Life is serious enough, take a break, grab a cuppa and watch or read some something that makes you laugh. Spontaneous humour and free giggles? Yes please!
- Stop eating CRAP!
The most powerful way to feel better instantly and long-term is to stop eating rubbish. You don’t need to be a nutritional expert to know that processed food is destroying your energy, mood and wellebing. Its obvious. Cleaning out your diet will be the single best gift you ever give to yourself, and might just save your life.
Its scientifically proven that exercise lifts your mood instantly. When you move your body it triggers a hormone release that makes you feel energised, happy and alive. You don’t need to run a marathon to get the benefits, whatever your ability there’s something you can do to increase your heart rate and move around. Just jump up out of the chair and do it.
We sincerely hope that you found this list useful. Take a break, stop being so hard on yourself and make a few minutes for some simple self-care habits.
